One day during Tulipfest Hubby and I decided to wander around downtown, which eventually led us to the market with empty stomachs. Because we had several other stops and bags full of groceries we needed something fast and great. To fit the bill we headed straight to La Bottega Nicastro Fine Food Shop for one of their killer sandwiches.

Price – At $5 a sandwich you can’t go wrong. This isn’t some teeny tiny little sandwich with a couple of slices of meat between two pieces of wonder bread, this is a BIG honking, stuffed piece of goodness. This sandwich could fill you up just as much as a 12 inch sub from one of those franchised sub shops.

Ambiance – Busy with the hustle and bustle of also being an Italian grocery shop, Nicastro’s is the stuff dreams are made of. You walk up the pasta aisle, order a freshly made, jaw dropping sandwich then drool your way to the cash register past their olive oil selection. It’s such a fun foodie environment! But there is a lot going on and moving quickly, not the place to go if you are looking to get away from the crowds. Though you can take a moment to relax as you sit out front of the store enjoying your goodies.

Menu Options – Not only do you get your choice of bread, cheese and meat for your sandwich but you also get to choose from a variety of toppings and condiments such as grilled eggplant. Their unusual and high end sandwich choices are what keep them a mile ahead of your standard sandwich shop.

Food – I’m starving just thinking about it. What a fantastic sandwich! Fresh, flavourful and homemade. It’s as good as anything I would make at home, if not better because I don’t have to do the dishes. Of course because they are a fine foods grocer, you also have the option of picking up all of the individual ingredients (including the artisan breads and cheeses) and making your own version at home. But I love being spoiled from time to time, and a great sandwich is definitely my idea of being spoiled.

Overall – I love this shop. I could hang out here all day and just browse their items snacking on bread and cheese. The sandwich is to die for and all for a fair price. 4.5 out of 5 stars.
