This weekend I participated in a great event for a great cause. Isabelle Rivard or @spoonsie for those who know her on twitter is cycling 4265 kms to raise funds and awareness for Cancer. $10 000 for cancer to be exact. That’s a huge goal for one person and one of the ways she’s going about this is by having awesome events such as a poutine crawl. That’s right… poutine crawl. There were roughly 40 of us who walked around  sampling 7 amazing poutine from various spots in and around the Byward Market. Hey some people bike for 9 days… others eat inhuman amounts of fries, gravy and cheese.

Here’s a little snap shot of our tour – where we visited and what we had:

Courtyard Restaurant – Duck and fois gras poutine
Murray Street – Potato spatzle, shredded mariposa duck confit and roast duck gravy
Island Flava – Jerk Chicken Poutine
Dunn’s – Montreal Smoked Meat Poutine
Zak’s Diner – Hash brown Potato and Hollandaise Sauce Poutine
Garlic Corner – Traditional Poutine
D’Arcy McGee’s – Guinness gravy poutine

The top 3 were my favorite by far – even though it was the most poutine I’ve eaten in 5 years so I’m really no expert. Good luck to Isabelle in all her fundraising – here is her site for more information or to make a donation to such a worthy cause.
