It’sss baaaaack! The Duelling Chefs competition starts up again today and every Monday from February 21 to June 6. This great event is a series of head-to-head contests between some of the best chefs in the Ottawa region, staged both for bragging rights and to benefit six local charities.

Once again the talented chef team from Juniper Kitchen will be  hosting this event at their restaurant and will face off against the visiting team every Monday for the next ten weeks. That’s two chefs in the kitchen, each backed by their teams, working head-to-head, against the clock. They must present a four-course meal, pairing each course with wine, and using a featured ingredient that will be revealed to them just two days ahead of the competition. When they serve each course, they have ten minutes to get it to all the tables, which is a minor acrobatic feat.

The event is judged by a three member panel and the audience. In the event of a tie there is an anonymous fifth judge who will cast the deciding ballot.

Here are the visiting Chef Teams that will be battling against Juniper:

February 21st: Chef Chris Deraiche, Wellington Gastropub
March 7th: Chef Glen Sansome, Petit Bill’s Bistro
March 21st: Chef Serge Rourre, Le Baccara
March 28th: Chef Gino Mastellotto, Flying Piggy’s Bistro Italiano
April 4th: Chef Rene Rodriguez, Navarra Restaurant
April 18th: Chef Ben Baird, Urban Pear
May 2nd: Chef John Taylor, Domus
May 16th: Chef Jonathan Korecki, Eighteen
May 30th: Chef Michael Farber, Farbs Kitchen & Wine Bar
June 6th: Chef Patricia Larkin, Black Cat Bistro

And the charities that will be splitting the proceeds from the event are:

3C Foundation
Huntington Society of Canada – Ottawa chapter
JSU Hillel
Postmedia Raise-a-Reader
Quickstart Early Intervention for Autism
Thirteen Strings Chamber Orchestra
